This lovely, suburban park has seven miles of frontage on the Rappahannock River. Travelers can escape from the city and rent motorboats, bikes or canoes. Blue crabs, wild turkeys and bald eagles are examples of wildlife you might see among the tidal coves, wetlands and forests.

WEST END. An idyllic spot tucked away in the West End, this park boasts many features that aid relaxation and fuel the love of the outdoors. The 167 acres include two fishing ponds with boardwalks and ducks, a nature pavilion and a quaint gazebo. Sports enthusiasts and kids will fall in love with the open fields for baseball, football and soccer.

SOUTHSIDE. This beautiful and scenic park on the James River includes Belle Isle, Pony Pasture, Huguenot Woods, North Bank, Main Park Area and a Visitors Center. Outdoor offerings include tubing, kayaking, fishing and bird watching. A walking tour highlights the history of the city. Be sure to stroll down the newly built Canal Walk. Great spot for nature lovers as well as history enthusiasts.

DOWNTOWN SOUTH. Richmonders take great pride in this 100-acre park that was originally the home of Major James H. Dooley. Features bountiful gardens, green hills and walkways. Also has a historically furnished Victorian home dating from 1890, a nature park and wildlife habitat and a children's farm with petting zoo. A great daylong excursion that highlights the natural and man-made wonders of the city.
